O you who believe! Profane not the Symbols of Allah (things connected with the pilgrimage), nor the sacred month (of pilgrimage), nor the sacrificial offering, nor the garlands (decorating these animals), nor those who sojourn at the sacred house (Kaaba), craving the grace and pleasure of their Lord. But when you are clear of the sacred precincts and the pilgrim's garb then you may hunt again. And let not hatred against the people who once turned you from the Sacred Mosque tempt you to transgress; but help one another unto righteousness and pious duty. Help not one another unto sin and enmity; but fear (respect and keep your duty to) Allah. Verily, Allah is severe in punishment.
3
Forbidden to you (for food) is that which dies of itself, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and that which is devoted to other than Allah, and that which has died by strangling, or by violence, or by a fall, or by goring, and which has been eaten by wild animals - except what you slaughter correctly - and what is sacrificed to idols. And (forbidden) is the dividing (raffling) of carcasses by arrows (i.e. by games of chance). This is an abomination. This day are the disbelievers in despair of harming your religion; fear them not, but fear Me. This day have I perfected for you your religion, and completed My favour unto you, and have chosen for you as religion Al-Islam. But he who is forced by hunger, not inclined wilfully to sin, verily, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
4
They will ask you what is lawful for them? Say, "Lawful for you are all good things. And what you have trained hunting animals to catch, in the manner directed by Allah; - so eat of what they catch for you, but mention the name of Allah over it, and fear Allah, for verily, Allah is swift in taking account."
5
This day all things good and pure are made lawful for you. The food of those to whom the Book has been given is lawful for you, and your food is lawful for them; and chaste women of those who believe, and chaste women of those to whom the Book has been given before you - when you have given them their marriage portions and live with them chastely, not in fornication, nor taking them as secret concubines (or paramours). But whoever denies the faith, of a truth his work is vain, and he shall be among the losers in the Hereafter.
6
O you who believe! When you rise up to prayer wash your faces, and your hands as far as the elbows, and wipe your heads, and your feet down to the ankles. And if you are polluted, then purify yourselves (bathe). But if you are sick, or on a journey, or if you come from the toilet, or if you have touched women and cannot find water, then take from high ground (clean) sand or earth and wipe your faces and your hands therewith. Allah does not wish to make a burden for you; but He wishes to purify you and to fulfil his favour upon you; that you may give thanks.

Allah did in the past make a covenant with the children of Israel, and raised up among them twelve chiefs; and Allah said, "Verily, I am with you, if you be steadfast in prayer, and give alms, and believe in My Messengers, and assist them, and lend to Allah a goodly loan; then will I remit from you your offences and make you enter gardens beneath which rivers flow: and whoever disbelieves after that, he hath erred from the Even Way (The Path of Rectitude). "
13
And because they broke their covenant, We cursed them, and placed hardness in their heart. They perverted the words from their contexts, and forgot a portion of what they were admonished. you will not cease to find treachery from all, save a few of them; but pardon them and bear with them (tolerate or ignore their perversity); verily, Allah loves the kind.

They, indeed, have disbelieved who say, "Verily, Allah is the Messiah the son of Mary. " Say, "Who can do anything against Allah, if He wished to destroy the Messiah, the son of Mary, and his mother, and those who are on earth altogether?" Allah's is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and what is between the two; He creates what He will, for Allah has power over all things!
18
But the Jews and the Christians say, "We are the sons of Allah and His beloved. " Say, "Why then does He punish you for your sins? Nay, you are mortals, men whom He has created! He pardons whom He pleases, and punishes whom He pleases; for to Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, and what is between the two, and unto Him is the journeying."
19
O people of the Book! Now Our Messenger has come to you to make things plain, after an interval in the succession of Messengers, lest you say, "There came not to us a herald of glad tidings nor a Warner. " But now there has come to you a herald of glad tidings and a Warner. Allah has power over all things!

For this cause have We prescribed to the children of Israel that whoever kills a soul, unless it be for murder or for mischief (or corruption) in the land, it would be as though he had killed all mankind; but whoever saves the life of one, it would be as though he had saved mankind. Our Messenger came to them in the past with manifest signs, afterwards, verily, many of them commit excesses in the earth.
33
The reward of those who make war against Allah and His Messenger, and strive after corruption (or disruption) in the earth, is only that they shall be slaughtered or crucified, or their hands and feet cut off on alternate sides, or that they shall be banished from the land. That is a disgrace for them in this world, and in the Hereafter is mighty woe;

O you Messenger! Let not those grieve you who vie with each other in disbelief, be they of those who say with their mouths "We believe," but their heart are faithless; or of those among Jews, listeners to a lie, who listen to other people, but not to you. They pervert the words from their context and say, "If this is what you are given, take it; but if you are not given it, then beware!". But he whom Allah wishes to try, you have no authority with Allah for him. These are those whose heart Allah wishes not to purify. For them in this world is disgrace, and for them in the Hereafter is mighty woe.
42
43
44
Verily, it was We who have revealed the Torah in which there is guidance and light; the prophets who had surrendered did judge the Jews thereby, as did the Rabbis (masters) and doctors of Law. To them was entrusted the Book of Allah to judge by, and they were witnesses to it. Fear not men, but fear Me, and sell not My Signs (or revelations) for a miserable price. Whoever will not judge by what Allah has revealed, these are the disbelievers.
45
We have prescribed for you therein "a life for a life, and an eye for an eye, and a nose for a nose, and an ear for an ear, and a tooth for a tooth, and for wounds equal retaliation;" But whoever remits it, it is an expiation for him. Whoever judges not by what Allah has revealed, these are the wrong-doers (the unjust).
46
And We followed up the footsteps of these (prophets) with Jesus, the son of Mary, confirming that which was before him, and We bestowed upon him the Gospel, wherein is guidance and light, verifying what was before it of the Torah (Hebrew Scripture), a guidance and an admonition unto those who fear (or ward off evil).
47
48
And unto you (Muhammad) have We revealed the Book in truth, verifying what was before it, and preserving it. Judge then between them by what Allah has revealed, and follow not their lusts (prejudices, fantasies), turning away from what is given to you of the truth. For each of you have We appointed a Law and a traced out Path. Had Allah pleased He would have made you one nation, but that He may try you by that which He has given you. Therefore, vie with one another in virtue. Unto Allah will you all return, and He will then inform you concerning that wherein you dispute.
49
Wherefore judge you between them by what Allah has revealed, and follow not their lusts (prejudices, fantasies, superstitions); but beware lest they mislead you from part of what Allah has revealed to you ; and if they turn back, then know that Allah wishes to smite them for some sins of theirs. Verily, many men are rebellious (evil doers).

O you who believe! Whoever of you turns away from his religion, Allah will bring (instead) a people whom He loves and who love Him, humble to believers, stern to unbelievers, striving in the way of Allah, fearing not the blame (or reproach) of any blamer (or critic). That is Allah's Grace! He gives it unto whom He pleases, for Allah is All-Embracing, All-Knowing.

The Jews say, "Allah's hand is fettered" (incapable or ungenerous), but it is their hands that are fettered and they are cursed for what they say. Nay! His hands are outspread, He spends how He pleases! And that which has been sent down to you from your Lord will surely increase many of them in their rebellion and disbelief, for We have cast amongst them enmity and hatred till the Day of Resurrection. Whenever they light a fire for war, Allah puts it out; they strive for corruption in the earth, but Allah loves not the corrupters.
65
66
67
68
Say, "O people of the Book! You have no ground to stand on till you stand fast by the Torah and the Gospel, and what is revealed to you from your Lord. " But what has been revealed to you from your Lord will of a surety increase many of them in rebellion and disbelief. Vex not thyself then for a people who disbelieve.

They surely disbelieve who say, "Verily, Allah is the Messiah the son of Mary;" but the Messiah himself said, "O children of Israel! Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord. Thee will surely find that the strongest in enmity against those who believe are the Jews and the idolaters (Pagans); and you will find the nearest in love to those who believe to be those who say, "We are Christians". That is because there are amongst them men devoted to learning (or priests) and men who have renounced the world (or monks), and because they are not proud.

Allah will not take you to task for the unintentional (or futile) word in your oaths (or promises), but He will take you task for oaths you swear in earnest. The expiation thereof is to feed ten poor men with the average food you feed your families with, or to clothe them, or to free a slave; but he who has not the means, then let him fast three days. That is the expiation of your oaths, when you have sworn; but keep your oaths. Thus does Allah explain to you His revelations that you may be grateful.
90
O you who believe! Verily, strong drinks (intoxicants, fermented or alcoholic drinks), and el maisar (gambling, trying to get something for nothing), and statues (idols), and divining arrows (superstitions and games of chance)) are only an abomination of Satan's work; avoid them then that per chance (or possibly) you may succeed (or prosper).
91
92
93
There is no crime in those who believe and do right, for having tasted forbidden food, when they fear (guard themselves from evil) and believe. So fear (do your duty to) Allah, and believe, and do what is right; and again fear (do your duty), and believe; and again fear (do your duty), and do good; for Allah loves those who do good.
94
95
O you who believe! Kill not game while you are on pilgrimage. But he amongst you who kills it purposely, he shall compensate the equivalent of that which he has killed, in domestic animals - of which two just persons amongst you shall judge - an offering brought to the Kaaba; or as an expiation, the feeding of the poor, or an equivalent thereof in fasting; that he may taste the evil result of his deed. Allah pardons bygones; but whoever repeats, Allah will take vengeance on him, for Allah is Mighty and Lord of Retribution.
96
97
Allah has made the Kaaba, the Sacred House, to be a standard (or an Asylum of Security) for men, and also the Sacred Month, and the Offering (sacrifices) and its Garland (which mark them); this is so that you may know that Allah knows what is in the heavens and what is in the earth, and that Allah is Knower of all things.

O you who believe! Let there be a witnesses among you when any of you is on the point of death at the time he makes his will - two equitable persons from amongst your family or two others from some other folk, in case you are journeying away in the land, and the calamity of death befall you. If you doubt them, then shut them both up after prayer, and they shall both swear by Allah, "We will not sell our testimony for a price (or take a bribe), even for a relative, nor will we hide Allah's testimony. If we do then verily, we shall be among the sinners."
107
But if it later found that they too have deserved the imputation of sin, then let two others stand up in their place with those who think them deserving of the imputation, the nearest two in kin, and they shall both swear by Allah, "Indeed, our testimony is truer than the testimony of those other two, and we have not transgressed, for then we should surely be of the unjust. "

Then Allah will say, "O Jesus, son of Mary! Remember My favours towards you and towards your mother, when I aided you with the Holy Ghost, so that you did speak to men in childhood and in maturity. Behold, I taught you the Book and Wisdom, and the Torah and the Gospel; and behold, you did create of clay, as it were, the likeness of a bird, by My power, and did blow thereon, and it became a bird by My power; and you did heal the blind from birth, and the lepers by My permission; and when you did bring forth the dead by My permission; and behold, I did restrain the children of Israel from (violence to) you, when you did come to them with manifest signs, and yet those who disbelieved amongst them said, 'This is naught but obvious magic.'

And when Allah said, "O Jesus, son of Mary! Was it you who did say to men, take me and my mother for two gods, beside Allah?" He said, "Glory be to Thee! What could have ailed me that I should have uttered what I had no right to? If I had said it, Thou wouldst have known it; Thou knowest what is in my mind, but I know not what is in Thy mind. Verily, Thou, only Thou art the Knower of the hidden.

Allah said, "This is the day when their truthfulness shall profit the truthful, for them are Gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they dwell in security for ever. Allah is well pleased with them, and they well pleased with Him; that is the great triumph (happiness, fulfilment, achievement, success)."
